Both islands behave like international airports: Vance Amory International Airport is located in Nevis, Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport is located in Saint Kitts, Antigua and Barbuda.

St Kitts and Nevis is an economy dominated by the twin islands, and the town of Basseterre in Saintitts is the largest town on the island with a population of around 2,000. The Old Road was the capital of the English part of St. Kitts when it was known as the mother colony of West India from the 18th century.
In the 19th century Great Britain added the neighbouring islands of St Kitts and Nevis to the British Virgin Islands (now the United States of America) for administrative purposes. In 1971 the Anguillans voted to secede from the Union, and the country became known as the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis. After independence in 1983, it became a member of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), a non-governmental association of countries. St. Kitts and Nevada gained independence from Britain in 1982 with the help of a joint declaration of independence by the US Congress.
After leaving the Union with St. Kitts and Nevis in 1980, Anguilla was placed under direct rule of the United States of America and placed under the control of the U.S. government.
This development of political independence was the result of the increasing emigration from Anguilla to the United States of America and the Caribbean, which began at the beginning of the 19th century. Emigration led to significant changes, which accelerated in the mid-1960s, when Britain founded the associated state of St Kitts and Nevis, which became fully independent in 1983.
In 1967, St Kitts and Nevis and Anguilla became an internally self-governing member of the Commonwealth and associated state of Great Britain. The British dependence on AngUilla, which historically was also part of the then collective of Saints Christopher, Nevi and Anguillas, but dissolved in 1971. In 1983, after a period of political and economic independence from the United States of America and the Caribbean, St Kitts and Nevis achieved independence as a sovereign state within the British Commonwealth.
British Overseas Territories, Anguilla remained British Overseas Territory, and the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis was an independent member of the Commonwealth. In 1983, St Kitts and Nevis became an independent Commonwealth kingdom and Angus became a sovereign state within the British Commonwealth with its own government.
